yeah he was so bad even his ratings were terrible, so he got canned in only a few months by the network.
in comparison, unfortunately, noory has lasted 9 years so far...
Noory must have mastered the buttering-up the network bosses, thats his only talent?  8)

I started listening to C2C when I had to drive home late at night a few times a week.  Mike Siegel was the host and I remember thinking the topics were interesting, and kept tuning into the show when I got a chance.  I don't really remember a single thing about MS, but I do remember when Art Bell returned and wondering who the heck he was.  Then I realized how much better the show was with Art.

I wonder if that's part of what's going on now with Noory, people aren't really paying that muh attention to the host, only tune in once in awhile, and have no idea how much better it would be with a good host.

You're probably on to something with this.  Art has been gone since when, 2003?  That's a lot of years for new people to be flipping around the radio dial in their cars or in the darkness of their bedrooms and hearing topics that catch their interest--a bigfoot here, a UFO there.  If you don't have Art as a standard bearer, maybe you're willing to put up with the Snooron to get those topics.

That doesn't explain the callers who tell Georgie that he's the best and fall all over themselves expressing their love for him, though.  No accounting for taste, I guess.

Does anyone happen to have an old Mike Siegel show stocked away somewhere by chance? I'd like to recall just how horrible he was. I can't remember anything about him when he was on back then.

I don't have any of his coast broadcasts...holy shit he was terrible, I was a freshman in highschool and I quit coast after 1 of his shows.

Even before Mike was Hilly Rose, who took over for a while when Art had some kind of legal family emergency in the late 90's... I never did figure out what the hell that was all about.  Anyway, Hilly Rose sucked.

Hilly sucked in relation to Art - I think we'd like him much better now.  At least he knew about space aliens and how Bill Clinton lost a war with them and had to hide our last 350 UFOs in Canada.
Mike Siegel was a lawyer and it showed.  I've heard him doing political shows since and he's much better.

Yes, he used to fill in on a political talk show here in west-central Minnesota/east North Dakota. He was much better at that than he was at hosting Coast. When he was hosting Coast, it always seemed like he had no real understanding of the kinds of topics common on the show; even worse, he seemed to have no interest. That said, I suppose the idea of "topics common to the show" went out the window years ago anyway...

that guy was shameless even getting a cat (named Vanna) to try to copy Art I recall.

Maybe we can at least tune out the crappy guests.  Of course that would mean a lot of tuning out.  I for one skip the last Thursday of the month :P

Let me just say, I can appreciate a Mike Siegel sticky.  I know he was only at the helm for a few months, but this man wasn't entirely bad.  I remember him getting into it with a caller who had a UFO sighting, and essentially told the guy that his story contradicted itself, and he wasn't a reliable witness.  This led to other callers going at it during open lines and calling him out on his "lawyerness" and semeingly non-open minded attitude....  ohhhh, the hate.  He drew it from the audience in a concentrated form, like venom from a snakebite.  If that's not a reason to like the guy, what is?

However, in retrospect it's fairly obvious that the network's decision to go with the milquetoast, "open minded" Jorch wasn't in some way influenced by the audience's bad reaction to Siegel and his personality.

i was reading on siegel's wikipedia page that he was doing a local radio talk show in fucking fargo just a few short years back.  christ.  in terms of a man's career, what a fall from grace.

Mike Siegel actually went to Art's compound in Pahrump, Nevada and met and talked to him in person there before he took over c2c when Art initially retired in 2000.
In contrast, Noory has never met Art at his home, only once years after he took over as host at some dinner event.

He did a two week audition on WRKO in Boston this past summer. Taking Savage's spot no less.
       He didn't get the gig.

Mike Siegel tried to copy Art, by often telling about a fake cat he called 'Vanna' to try to appeal to listeners who enjoyed Art's many tales of his own collection of cats...

I never understood the hatred for Mike Siegel.  I used to listen to his local show here in the Seattle area, so I was already familiar with him when he got the Coast gig.  Sure, he wasn't Art, but at least he didn't slaughter the English language and was able to ask intelligent questions.  I'll admit he was a bit on the dry side, but still better than Noory.

Happy Holidays!  And thanks to both of you for your service!

Sounds like Siegel had some respect for himself. Go figure.

Perhaps his crime is he was Not-Art as well as unapologetic about it. As opposed to a hungry ass-slurper like Noory.

that's right.  siegel was at least intelligent and does have professional credentials he can draw upon.  he was just out of his element as c2c host.  it was the wrong gig for him.  at least he had the balls to give it a try.

When I discovered C2C, Mike Siegel was the host.  I liked the show enough to stay with it.

Of course Art was great and I never looked back when he returned (I remember thinking, heh, who's this and what happened to Siegel).  If Noory had been the host that first time I stumbled onto the show, I'm pretty sure I would never have tuned in again.

he is a decent daytime political show host, but wasn't interested in the c2c paranormal topics, so the ratings plummented and the network quickly canned him.

Truer words, etc. I happened to begin my C2C history after Siegel but during one of Art's "returns", while Ramona was still living. I'm with you in that had I discovered C2C after The Lebanese Elvis had settled in, I doubt I would have ever stuck around. As it was I had an opportunity to listen to Art just long enough to get hooked and develop some show loyalty. I came to GN with a lot of goodwill and a willingness to give him the benefit. Which I did for several years until I finally admitted I had been lying to myself about enjoying the show with him as host.

That's sure what looks like happened, but why in the world would he have taken a show whose format he hated? Art was initially a current event/political host, so maybe he thought he could seamlessly move C2C back to what it was years before.

I'm gonna guess..... Money.  After reading that article on Noory, the latter seems to be walking a fine line between thinking it's a joke and pretending to take it seriously.

Yes, we're still celebrating lol.  It's a big relief to have him back.  As far as we know he'll be here throughout 2013, but he's scheduled to go back to Afghan in 2014.  >:(  We'll see how that plays out, but they are on the rotation schedule as of now.  Happy Holidays to you as well!

I liked Mike Siegal. I don't remember much about him.But when Art Bell returned that was so much better. Barbara Simpson used to be just OK. She once did a show on Fengue Swhai, that I turned off at the break. Not interesting enough. But Mike and Barbara were better than Noory.
