Phan's photo bears a spiking resemblance? to the intersection in life Tom Hanks as Chuck Noland found himself contemplating at the end of Castaway.

What are you doing with pictures of the view from the balcony of Dicky Hoagland's Dream-House?(Done in the style of Lars cum shanty)

And since we're on the subject of deserted spaces, may I present the obvious.....

AKA Tricky Dick's Shangri-La.... George's Getaway Wasteland Timeshare where he contemplates the mediocrity of it all.

Btw, anyone else notice how Americans were holding their collective breath in the wake of Morgan Freeman's accident?  Almost as if they were wondering if he would resurrect had he been killed.  No one was saying it.

But they were thinking it - clamping at the bit (surgeon humor) - at the ready to pen the Book of Morgan.

I thought Art Bell sort of resembles a neanderthal with the forehead he has, but George is plain wretched looking. This would scare small children to the point of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Last week I was trying to make a case for the Batman (movie) franchise being cursed. Now this...

it's sad.....This Cat used to mess up SuperMan! Old-School Style! *Personally, I think it's all the Green Lantern's doing..*

This is true.  But then, I remember a conversation with my son (he and I are film freaks both in the purely-for-fun sense and the semi-academic sense, history of film and all that.  Wanna know how Nazi propaganda evolved into the modern American Soap Opera?  Just ask me  ;) ) in which I said essentially the same thing, and he replied "yeah, but he's so GOOD at it."  I had to agree.  Freeman is a character actor with a character the fits the bill when no one else will.

I don't like watching movies and usually don't, so maybe I am the wrong person to say this, but it seems to me that Robin Williams and Jack Nicholson also play the same character, or variations of the same character, in every movie they do. Robin is either *manic, funnyman Robin* or *serious, thoughtful Robin*. He usually grows a beard for the latter role. Nicholson is just *loose cannon, smart alec, borderline psychotic Jack* in every role he does. He turns up the crazy in some roles, and cuts back on it in others, but he's basically a one trick pony.

as much as i don't want to, i think i'm going to have to agree with you here.

it doesn't bother me to agree with you about williams, since i find him to be a pleasure to dislike.

however, it does bother me to agree with you on nicholson.  he wasn't this way in earlier years when his performances were as varied as the roles he was cast to play.  think of easy rider, one flew over the cuckoo's nest, and the shining.  very different roles for nicholson.  fast forward about 20 or 30 years and compare him in as good as it gets or the bucket list.  same guy.  same role.

i do have to give nicholson credit for about schmidt.  i love that movie (not that i dislike the others i mentioned here) and i think his portrayal of warren schmidt was a departure from what audiences have come to expect from today's jack nicholson.

i think the reason audiences have forgiven nicholson for becoming a caricature of himself, if you will, is simply because it's pleasurable to watch.  at least i think so.

I really enjoyed that clip, Michael. I think I will rent the movie this weekend. I never saw Cuckoo's Nest or Easy Rider. I saw bits of A Few Good Men, As Good As It Gets, The Shining, that movie with Shirley Mclane where her daughter has cancer (Terms of Endearment?) and that last movie he did with some actress whose name I can't remember. In the movie, he starts off dating her daughter, has a heart attack because he took viagra and winds up with the mother.

You will find that with most actors who reach a certain benchmark where they are "paid to appear" rather then "paid to produce". Also, when they get past a certain age, they only seem to "sell the franchise product", if you know what I mean - the signature personality/role. Nicholson now, DeNiro, Pacino, Eastwood, Carrot-Top....all the greats.  Certain Directors may be able to pull a special performance out of an old turkey, but it's rare.

Hi Michael! Just read your post on the Live Time Chat. I liked that thread. I just can't stay up that late. Ev is also on the East Coast and the Snoron is on from 1 to 5 am. Those are tough hours to be up, but I think when enough people are on, the thread will take off. I slept from 10 pm to 3 am, which is the only reason I am up now (working on my computer w/the Snoron in the background).

To that end, Michael Tsarion (guest) just announced that his book is almost acheived *Sold Out* status in five days. The Snoron sounded REALLY jealous. Really jealous. In your face, George.
