How to Improve Coast to Coast - Observations, Evaluations and Suggestions
Zircon:
In reading many posts from several threads in this forum, the prevailing opinion of the quality of Coast to Coast AM is that it is in decline and its best days were when Art Bell hosted his own creation. I must agree that Art was a solid anchor for the program and wasn't nearly as accommodating as Noory, Wells and Knapp with their guests. There will never be another "Art" host on C2C.
Perhaps a reformatting of the weekly broadcasts could increase interest? The spectrum of potential guests include true scientists with PhDs, archaeologists/anthropologists, folklore, UFO investigators, social/political/economics investigators, futurists, paranormal investigators and so called spiritualists.
If potential listeners knew that on Friday, for example, paranormal, spiritual or folklore were to be discussed then this would attract people interested in those subject matters to Friday night programs. I realize that the C2C posts its week's programs in advance. But there is no consistency. What I suggest might not work but it might be worth a try.
Like them or not, some of the common names we see appear often such as Hoagland and Howe have basically earned their "right" to appear. They have contributed for years to C2C and often have information worth listening to.
I believe futurists and space travel to include generation ships and space arks are extremely interesting. Also programs dealing with these latest finds in Turkey. The old dead horse of Atlantis and channeling to Atlanteans is a total waste of time and I don't even bother listening to these dog-and-pony show programs. Wiccan and feminine goddesses sounds to me like an anti-male, pro-NOW hag programs. Remote viewing is a complete lie. EVP is pure nonsense. But that is just me.
The program needs to get away from these soft subjects that are unbelievable and largely bullshit.I'm not alone here on this and I do think that programs like this have resulted in a declining audience. Just look at the Norry thread and several others that are calling these folks frauds.
A large measure of C2C's decline can be ascertained by revenue not realized by their advertisers. Of course, the economy is kind of fucked up right now so disposable income has become less available as well.
More emphasis on science, archaeology/speculative history, futurists and the state of affairs with the world probably generate the largest audiences (along with Ghost to Ghost and Predictions for the coming year). The hosts need to get away from that old "lets do a pajama party" mentality.

It's possible Premier is starting to head in a similar direction already. Noory's guest last night was Wells' guest three weeks ago, suggesting that the network sees the weekend shows as a 'different' program from the weekday presentations. They have the audience numbers and demographics, so it may be the audiences are sufficiently different to justify that attitude.
I'd agree with you about wanting more futurist and space travel programs and I personally would like to see more shows about the sort of back-to-the-land, self-sufficiency topics which used to be covered (very successfully) by Mother Earth News magazine. I think that would provide C2C with a new direction that would gain them new listeners.
I lost interest in the 'paranormal' stuff years ago, and even Ghost To Ghost has become a boring, over-produced waste of air time.
It's also possible that some of the more interesting possible guests in the scientific arena won't appear as long as Simple George is the host.
Zircon:
Yes Steve, I can see an interest in "self sufficiency" these days. The C2C crowd is one of those that tries to look around the corner from time to time. With many suggesting an impending collapse of our society, being self sufficient would be a good thing to work on. I am supposing this is what you mean at least in part.
And I agree with what you point it out with the weekend programming being "different". George Knapp isn't all that bad as you can sense he is manning the controls and just doesn't sit back with a big "Wow!" on his face (presumed) like Noory.
Yes, the paranormal stuff is old. The same old same old with new gadgets (EVP for example) being used to investigate. I'm a bit amazed that so many "ghost" programs can be found on cable on a nightly basis. And so many of them are complete bullshit. Visual fluff for the brain dead IMO.
There have been some well grounded folks on as guests who speak of the global situation and where we're all headed. Some good investigators into NDEs, the soul and how it relates to plain biochemistry. The UFO stuff is getting stale even though I'll be sure to listen when Davenport is on.
stevesh:
Yup, self-sufficiency as regards possible future problems, but also as a way as easing the pressures on the Earth. I don't buy into the whole political Climate Change thing, but anybody who thinks seven billion people and their technology can exist on a planet this size without affecting its climate is delusional.
Different strokes. UFO's are my least favorite C2C topic and Davenport my least favorite UFO guest.
My beef with the paranormal stuff probably stems from my near-complete lack of belief in the religious and (as Noory would say) 'speerchul'. I just think C2C's time would be better spent on more practical topics, including a lot of science.
Zircon:
I can see your point about spending more time and trending towards things that can be observed and measured. Makes for a more informed audience. What are your feelings on alternate history/acheo/anthro stuff?
