Several New Features/Changes

(1/14) > >>

MV:
I just wanted to give everyone an explanation of several new features that have been added to the forum.

1) You've all noticed the theme change by now.  The dark theme is still available in your profile settings, but it will eventually be removed altogether.  There are technical reasons for its planned removal.  Several of the modifications to the forum software require additional work in order to function in the old dark theme.  It's too much trouble to support/resolve these issues in two themes for only one website.

2) Sticky and non-sticky topics are neatly separated in the board index.

3) The system now notifies users if caps lock is detected during login.

4) Words like "today" and "yesterday" are now used in post time/date stamps rather than just the date/time alone.

5) When you log in to the forum, it will return you to the page you were viewing during log out.

6) An activity bar now appears under each user avatar in posts.  It is based on the number of posts a user submits during the previous 45 day period.

7) If a user has been online within the last 12 hours, a green glow will surround their avatar.  If not, the glow is red.

8) The search feature now includes an "advanced" search option.  It greatly enhances the forum's searchability.

9) The pagination links have been redesigned and rearranged.

10) File attachments can now be placed within the post body (inline) rather than just at the end of the post in a separate space.

That's about it.  Any questions or problems... please post them in this thread for everyone to read.

The General:
the 20 or so most recent posts that usually appear on the home page don't show up anymore.  That was the only way I navigated the old forum.  To find this post I had to click your profile and click 'posts' because I knew you'd probably posted about the change.  Can't figure out how to use this new theme.

have you tried the "unread posts" feature in the menu?

edit:  when you click "unread posts," click the little "new" icon next to the threads.  it will take you to the first unread post in that thread.

yes, but it doesn't work the same.  For example, your reply didn't show up when I clicked.  I had to again go to your profile and click 'posts.'

this might also be a case of operator error.  I am slightlyl retarded.  But I do prefer to see a list of recent posts rather than a list of posts based on a cookie or something about what I've supposedly read and what I haven't, if that makes sense.

Hmmm...I kinda have to agree with your (and now mine) retardation.
Modification: I figured it out. However I am empathetic to the General's point. It was a nice feature.
