Did anyone beleive Bugs?
« on: March 04, 2012, 09:52:36 PM »
In case you don't know "Bugs" was a guy who called Art and claimed that in the 60's (?) he shot two bigfoot in Texas. Now he had a two hour long interview with Art over the phone and his story was later proven to be a hoax. But did anyone who heard his story ever actually believe it?

When you were young and dumb
And listening to Bugs on the radio while you drank next to a warm campfire I think you'd believe just about anything

I always wanted to believe all the crazy stories.  I was in my late teens/early 20's at the height of C2C's glory days.  I wanted to believe.  I was also smoking a lot of pot.  I participated in the charade willingly.  Deep down, I think that I knew 98% of the show's stories were just that, stories.  But I really wanted to believe.

We all did/do. This stuff is fun, and as long as we remember that, we're OK :) It's once you start going to the conferences that you have to stop and ask yourself if its healthy.

I never really bought it, but it was pretty fun nonetheless.

Circa 1994-95, I started listening to Art as an escape from the grim realities of the age(Waco,WTC part 1, Bosnia,Mogadishu,McVeigh, OJ, Clinton's weekly scandals real or contrived) and didn't mind that roughly 90% of the content of C2C was almost certainly bullshit. It was entertainment.

I was also a drug addled boozebag just out of high school and into the workplace. Reality was the last thing I needed or wanted.

Did you ever call the show? Has anyone on this site ever called the show? the prank callers aside, lol.

Sadly, never to C2C. I tried one night(Feb 1998) when Art was looking for "The Antichrist" to call in. My co-workers on the loading dock were egging me on(it was about 4am and we were all a bit loaded)...and I got a busy signal and gave up after a few attempts.

I was going say "Hello,Art. This is the Evil One, Mr. Satan calling from Hell, where we are conducting an orientation of our newest arrivals like John Denver, Princess Diana and Mother Theresa"...

LOL. I love your stories. I don't think Diana needed any orientation, though.

I'd love to see a compilation of "almost callers" and their stories that were almost, but never heard on Art's show.

I've tried. No luck.

That's a good point. I get the feeling that including Mother Theresa would have gotten me the hook, Art not wanting to piss off Catholics...my mother would have been leading the letter writing campaign if she heard about "Mother Theresa in Hell".

As best I remember the show: his whininess discredited him for me.  Anyone so willing to automatically shoot at an Unknown in the dark would seem unlikely to be so "torn up" about it later.

Yep, I got through in November 2010 when Mike Bara was on plugging his appalling book The Choice. I read him an excerpt from page 34 and asked politely whether he realized that, scientifically, it was poppycock. He denied ever having written those words and refused to answer. George Noory, an official endorser of the book, protected Mike and cut me off.

Astroguy made a podcast out of it on the anniversary last year.

BTW, here's the quote from the book:
"Many of the planets' orbits, which ... should be perfectly circular by now, are highly elliptical. In fact, Mars's orbit is so eccentric that its distance from Earth goes from 34 million miles at its closest to 249 million miles at its greatest."

I really dig your commitment to exposing these creeps. Good for you. George has to protect what little loyal guests he has, so I'm not surprised.
