Thats why Art is the master. He could easily take a "bad" guest and still make it a great show. He had a great gift for that. Whereas a Host like Noory and many other's rely on thier guests Mo-Jo to make the show a good one.
Hell, some of Arts best shows have been nothing but open lines. No guest's at all! Thats how good he was.
How very, very, very true!
Art Bell was a truly great host of the show, the master of the C2C airwaves, whom I miss very much for the intelligence, consummate hosting skills, quality showmanship, and value he gave the show. Compared to Art,
the three stooges: Noory, Punnett and Knapp, are third-rate clowns who wouldn't even be competent enough to make the children laugh at a children's hospital. I consider myself fortunate to have enjoyed a couple of years of Art's hosting before he finally retired. He is incomparable. I miss Art Bell as the show's host.
In contrast to Art's professionalism and performance,
Noory is an insult to the show's intelligent listeners. He borders on the moronic. Oftentimes while listening to him at the show, I swear I could picture Noory simultaneously working on a crossword puzzle while interviewing his guest. Every now and then, almost as if on cue or timed by his desk clock, he would glance at a prepared handy checklist of standard pet questions or issues with which to interrupt his guest. I swear you could hear him ask the same questions or raise the same issues over and over again with his guests, from show to show -- things like: "What do you think 2012 is about?" or "I think we'll be destroyed by a CME from the sun." or "I believe in God; don't you?"
Noory wastes precious air time on useless or stupid matters with his guests many times: precious time that could have been better spent extracting more information out of the interview or eliciting a fuller response from his guest. He frequently misses out on opportunities to ask penetrating or incisive questions of his guests. I've noticed
he plays favorites with his guests. He can dislike a guest for not cooperating with his catastrophobic beliefs or for not sucking up to his taste for sensationalism. I recall when he had Kymberlee Ruff as his guest on the subject of the Hopi-Tibetan prophecy. Ruff refused to accommodate Noory's insinuations of impending world catastrophes as she stuck firmly with her optimistic, upbeat message that humanity was entering the "Time of Never Ending Peace." Noory revisited the issue with Ruff more than once during her interview. Halfway through the interview you could sense in Noory's tone of voice that he had lost interest in Ruff's interview. That sucked.
I get a laugh when I listen to how some guests, such as Richard Hoa
xland (Hoagland) or David Wilcock, deliberately or unwittingly attempt to manipulate or dominate Noory as the host by pulling on his plugs or strings. There are times when a guest quacks too many times or too loudly, as in being a "quack," yet Noory lets his quack guest get away with all the quacking. I recall Art Bell would have started cutting down or slicing up such a guest.
Then, of course, Noory can get very excited over something close to home or personal to him that he starts to transform the interview into "his" own interview instead of his guest's. The poor guest can only wait for the end of Noory's musings so he can say "Amen." or "ditto" to Noory at the end. George Knapp, another ham host of the show, does a similar thing under the pretense of being eloquent and verbose just like his banner imagery of a "sirocco blazing through the Nevada desert." (Jeez! Speak of being corny.) Punnett was such a pain to the ear because of his hosting, his stammering (when he gets emotional or excited), and his lousy choice of guests generally; was I ever glad when he had to back off from the show as a regular weekend host.
Yup, gone are the days of the classic Art Bell shows. The three stooges have certainly made Art into the stuff of "pure legend."
