i disagree with about islam being incongruent with american life

to be clear, i'm not anti muslim.  i have plenty of credentials to prove that, but i'll reserve that for some other time.


it's just that the american way of life does not correspond at all with the manner in which the islamic belief system would have one live.  just go ask a muslim, or take a look at the many incongruities between sharia law and american law.  i don't know anybody in my personal life who would be prepared to adhere to that system.  while most muslims aren't extreme in their beliefs and don't push for the imposition of sharia law on infidels, the cream tends to rise to the top.  the most vocal, extreme, oppressive, intrusive members of any belief system, while a minority, are always the party most responsible for exacting change, be that change social, legal, or spiritual in nature.  it's the case in nearly every revolution i can think of.

for me, this is what much of the current political climate boils down to.  if the republicans sweep the senate and house in november, i'll respond by squeezing a gasser.  it will literally affect me about that much.  it's amazing how my perceptions have changed.  ten years ago, a republican sweep would have me looking for a roll of bounty towells to clean up after myself.

  Maybe I'm in a funk, but listening to Julian Cribb talking about the impending world famine has got me thowing up my hands and saying, "screw this."  How is anybody supposed to deal with economic disaster, global climate whatever, famine, and (we learned today) a couple of asteroids zipping by the earth and we didn't see them coming until three days ago?  It seems the only guy with a plan is ole grandpa down in Florida who, in spite of the entire world telling him not to do it, is gonna have a little cook out this weekend and risk engulfing the planet with the bloody vengeful wrath of the religion of peace.
    I've been in this funk before.  It usually goes away by the time the sun comes up.

This is a false dichotomy. Bush started the Wall Street bail out and Obama continued it. Proving once again that despite all the bluster all major politicians agree on one thing; take care of the people that fund the campaigns first, everything else is window dressing.

since we've opened the door to political discourse ... which seems to frequently descend into flat out argument ... i'm just going to state a few things i believe to be true or a close approximation of the truth


1) our government has been hijacked by corporate interest
2) there's little difference between Dem/Repub.  lesser of two evils
3) we desperately need to dismantle our current government / military
4) US foreign policy is creating more problems than it is solving - STOP
5) US needs to stop being global bully
6) i'm for a civilian work/peace force that would be akin to a 2 year tour in the military.  focus on domestic programs.  everyone would be trained in firearms and self defense


there.  chew on that. 


and for the record ...  the disclosure movement isn't going anywhere.  our government would never disclose the truth about ET's because it would mean we'd be pressured to share that information with our allies.  this is more dangerous than atom bomb / hydrogen bomb tech.

The UFO/alien agenda...They are making hybrids so that when humans destroy themselves and the planet these hybrids will be able to take over and live on Earth. How many times did he mention that in a 40 minute interview? re: the recent abduction episode ... they didn't discuss sleep terror which explains most abduction stories that begin with someone in bed and then not being able to move when alien critters enter the bedroom.  also they never discussed how hypnosis can be used to create false memories or memories of events that never happened.  keep in mind that the hypnosis that 'researchers' use to reveal hidden memories from abductions is the same hypnosis that night club performers use to make someone from the audience do all manner of crazy stuff.  because hypnosis is a state were people are really, really open to suggestion.  which makes most/all of these hypnotic regression therapies very suspect

I recently watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind for the first time.  It made me wonder if that movie influenced the stories that we hear of abduction or if the movie was inspired by personal stories.  I was three when the movies was made.  I wonder if prior to that the descriptions of greys were the same or did they change?  It was probably the first time that we were exposed visually and on a national level to an ideal of what an alien looks like or moves like. 

I also wondered if the game Simon was inspired by that movie.

i think Bud Hopkins is definitely in this group.  if you read the interviews you see how he's asking questions that are leading.  even asking the question is leading if the subject is in a highly suggestible state as they would invent something if they had no recall of the event

absolutely.  i think a lot of abduction stories are false memories. however i find the story of betty and barney hill to be believable if only because it occurred years before the abduction scenario had seeped into popular culture (well there were some cheesy 50's sci fi movies)

I couldn't agree more. What really drives me nuts about it is the insane double standard. We have an open debate and vote on gay marriage, some states allow it some don't. For that we hear 'hate crime', 'human rights abuse' etc. Meanwhile in many Muslim countries homosexuality is punishable by death. But that's okay, we have to be tolerant of their culture.

The same people that go all wharglle bargle over Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson seem to be willing to tolerate much more horrible behave in the name of religion,as long as it is a non-Christian religion.

i think selective tolerance indicates something other than tolerance.  it indicates an agenda being disguised as tolerance, and most of the people who are a part of it don't even know THEY'RE A PART OF IT.  i find it ironic that the people most likely to tolerate islamic extremism are the people whose lives are lived in a way that is far more incongruent with the beliefs of islamic extremists than anyone else in america.  in other words, they'd be the first to have their throats slit at night in bed.

i know exactly what you mean. i'm in a college town ( chapel hill, nc ) and UNC fans ( a.k.a. Tarheels ) are absolute children when it comes to Their Local College Sports Team.  they gloat gloat gloat when they win.  and do nothing but bitch and whine when they don't get a national championships.  i don't follow college sports at all and have no loyalty to ANY college sports program.  not even the University i graduated from. but i have begun to actively root AGAINST UNC because their fans are such idiots
