Is George Noory Really WKRP's Less Nessman?
Gassy Man:
I've been listening to George mangle the English language as well as foreign words ("Rio De Janiero"; "Turin") and his -- well, how does one characterize it . . . signature -- style of delivering news, and it struck me that he's basically doing Les Nessman from the old WKRP in Cincinnati. Here's a link to a clip that is so George, it isnt even funny (though it's funny) . . . I wish the one with Chi Chi Rodriguez was available.
WKRP - "Monster Lizard"
Morgus:
i thought Noory was more like the Ted Baxter newsman character on the old Mary Tyler Moore show? 8)
Eddie Coyle:
Noory would drop the routine flyball in the "battle of the stations" softball game.
b_dubb:
I think you are being grossly unfair to WKRP by mentioning Noory in the same sentence. There was no equivalent to Noory at WKRP. Les was just dull. But he knew his stuff. Noory seems to struggle with everything. Including basic pronounciation and remedial knowledge.
Gassy Man:
That may be true, though I found the inability to get even the most straightforward of tasks -- such as reading from a piece of paper -- completed competently uncannily the same.
I should however apologize to WKRP.
