Dear God paranormal radio sucks.....
« on: October 23, 2011, 06:08:06 PM »
Hi guys, been awhile since I've been here.

I stopped listening to Coast to Coast nearly two years ago. The way I see it, that ship sank a looooong time ago. BUT, I need something to listen to. I miss having some sort of outlet for my interest in the paranormal and since the art bell stream vanished I have pretty much just been listening to news broadcasts. So I have been exploring podcasts and what not and all I have to say is holy shit. It's like someone gave the current audience of Coast to Coast a mic. I DO NOT want to listen to other 'believers' pat each other on the back and peddle their own books/websites/services exclusively. This is especially true of any Ghost themed show, as ALL of them have their own little paranormal investigation squads with enough pseudoscience and pomp to make them feel credible. And some of their websites look like museums to web design in 1998.

Do any of you know of any decent hosts out there that deal with the paranormal from a skeptical or unbiased viewpoint? That was one of the things they kept me listening to Art Bell. While he did allow alot of absolute shit on his show, I usually had a sense that he was on the fence and wouldn't just sit there without challenging/engaging the ideas being presented. I have listened to nearly 50 different shows over the past month and usually cant make it past the 20 minute mark from the sheer 'THIS IS FACT, SILLY NONBELEIVERS' attitude of the hosts.  I'm not really looking for 'skeptic' radio either,  as I don't want to listen to "THERE IS NO GOD YOU SILLY PLEB" radio either. So do any of you know of any hosts out there who engages with the same spirit as Art Bell?  Open to possibility but staying grounded in reality. I figure this is a stretch but figured I would ask before giving up the ghost of finding a  decent show.

i think you're pretty much screwed.  listening to a paranormal themed podcast sounds about as fun to me as the clap.  the hosts who talk about this stuff almost invariably manage to turn an otherwise interesting subject into a health insurance seminar.  that's what made art special.

Kinda what I figured MV. While I love being able to listen to a fuckton of stuff I wouldn't otherwise be able to pick up, the ability for any shit head to pick up a mic an pronounce themselves host is awful. For every 1 decent show there are 20 god awful piles of absolute shit and I just don't feel like wading through it anymore to find that one hidden gem. I do however, enjoy your show and sorta wish there were more shows akin to that out there.

I doubt there will ever be anyone like  Bell on air again. I had a little hope for Punnet for awhile but that ship sailed when he had the horse guy on. Remember that turd of a show?

Mysterious Universe. Two Australian guys who do a really good job production-wise and they're a decent ratio of skepticism vs belief in some paranormal topics.

Some people here also like Paracast, and the host posts here sometimes, but the new shows a grating to my ears with all the repetitious adverts.

Dark Matters radio with Don Ecker is generally pretty good.  Although at this point all that is available is the archives, no new shows.  But there are some real classics in there.  Also, the Paracast archives on iTunes, before they moved to GCN.  There are some great shows in there, also.  Binnall of America.

Listening to mysterious universe now. Its not that bad actually, much better than the filth I have been finding over the last month or so. I may give paracast a chance when I have time. never heard of dark matters either but its worth a shot.

There was one I tried out a few months ago and it was horrible.  I don't remember what it was called but it was supposed to be more of a science related podcast with some paranormal thrown in I think.  The website looked nice and promising, but what shit...  It was a couple dudes messing around playing sound effects from TV shows like Family Guy repeatedly and listening to them laugh at it every time.  I managed to make it through 15 minutes or so hoping it would get better but it didn't.  Just horrible.

Haunted South on iTunes is pretty good, although I've only listened to one episode so far. Same thing with The Paranormal Report.

I just had flashbacks to an ex-girlfriend's mother circa 1991...total nutjob in this vein, new age nut who had all the answers to the uinverse...except for her failed marriages, promiscuous daughters and nagging coke habit to go along with her scumbag cop boyfriend. She didn't like me because my "life number" was a 6...which of course is one third of Satan's number. Cuckoo. But goddamn it, this broad's a dead ringer for her.

Check out "Darkness Radio" on iTunes. It's pretty good. There's another show called ParaTalk that i like, although some might find it a bit dry.

I haven't listened, but Joshua P Warren has a show, but he's had Noory as a guest recently.

I hear The Gralien Report is good, but I don't have any idea.

Here's a paranormal radio show that airs every weeknight from 9 to 12am.

I remember years ago when I was living in Seattle, a radio station 570 KVI (AM) was a conservative talk radio station (Limbaugh, Michael Medved and a guy named Peter Weisbach). Well, at 3PM, if you switched over to 1000 AM you could get a repeat of Art Bell's program from the previous night (great for people who had to work for a living to keep up). It was followed by Peter Weisbach. His program was called "The Quest" and ran from 7PM until 10PM when Art Bell would come back on with a live show.

I guess Peter was trying to get Seattle on the map in the realm of national paranormal talk radio since Seattle was a really hot place to be in the 1980s-90s with all the high tech and all (my working past as well). He seemed to have this thing for a female guest who talked about having sex with reptilians. He had her on more often than I'd expect. Anyway, he got booted from conservative talk radio (570 KVI) and also from his paranormal show just before 9/11/2001.

Just thought you'd like to know someone else attempted to expand the playing field now 11+ years ago.
