noticed that the black has been removed. Would it be possible to add it back to the choices, or another similary dark theme be selectable? The white is just too much for me...

thanks
Andy

The orange color scheme offends my Irish Republican sensibilities. What federal agency do I file suit with?

the ministry of "things and such."  i hear they get stuff done.

i know it's felt like "musical themes" here recently. for this, i apologize.  however there are a few reasons.

1) i get bored.

2) the original "dark" theme looked ok, but it lacked a LOT of the functionality that was needed in order for me to reliably and consistently implement modifications to the backend software (things like post drafts, embedded videos, etc.).  the current "dark" theme is based on the default theme, and as such, provides the best of both worlds.  it is easy on the eyes while simultaneously allowing me to install modifications.  it also contains minimal clutter.

the most recent update of the forum software brought about some code changes that rendered this a worthwhile issue to pursue again.  believe it or not, for THE LAST 3 YEARS this forum had been running on a beta version of the software followed by several "release candidate" versions.  i was a big dummy for EVER hopping on the experimental side of things, and after i did so, i had no choice but to remain "all in" until the final release came along... which, again, only took 3 years.  what a bitch that was.

my only problem with this current theme is the light grey default text color within posts and elsewhere.  i'd like that to be pure white against this background for better contrast, and i know many of you agree with that (HAL, where are you?).  anyway, all suggestions, comments, and gripes are welcome.

that is no problem.  click profile > modify profile > look and layout... and next to "current theme" click "change."  under "SMF Default Theme - Curve" click "use this theme."  and... off you go!

cheers.

if you want to see the "show recent replies" link again, click the little button to the right of the forum's title at the top of the page.  you might have to click it a couple of times before it expands.

I just switched over to the blue and white theme because the orange one was giving me some issues.  I'm still running Firefox 3.6.9 here and the orange theme was real laggy.  I'm not sure if that's the correct term for it.  It was just slow to respond to scrolling and when pages loaded they would bounce around till everything loaded up which took longer than most sites.  This blue and white theme seem to function fine.  I was hoping for the old black theme or something similar but this will work fine.

I hadn't seen anyone else comment on lag with the orange theme so I'm guessing it might just be my older version of FF.  I didn't try other browsers since the theme change worked out fine.

Just laziness really.  I'll update it now and change the theme back to see if that fixes things.

Ok I just updated to Firefox 5 and bounced back and forth between themes to compare.  While MUCH better now it's still smoother in the blue and white theme.  For example if I load up a thread that is a full page of posts and grab the scroll bar to drag it down to the bottom real fast it lags a bit.  The blue and white doesnt do this and scrolls as fast as I move the cursor.  With the update to 5 I wouldn't have even noticed it much without a comparison so it's not really a big deal now.  I guess at least if there's other lazy people out there complaining about the same thing this will help them out now.  By the way my PC and connection are plenty to handle forums.  I browse 4 or 5 different forums regularly and this is the only one I've experienced this with.

I don't mean it as a complaint, I'm fine with how it operates now, but as the admin here I thought you'd want to know how different browsers are working on your site.

thanks for letting me know about the issues you're experiencing.  no need to apologize at all.  i recall complaining about this same issue in our firefox thread a while back.  as i recall, when firefox updated to 3.6, i immediately began having the issue you speak of here.  3.5 was fine, but 3.6 blew it.

this was what prompted me to dump firefox and adopt google chrome, and i haven't looked back.  well, i take that back.  i did try firefox a bit when they hit 4.0, and while i thought it was nice, i felt like they were simply taking the good ideas implemented by chrome and making them their own.  might as well stick with the original, imo.  also, 4.0 still didn't feel as snappy as chrome.

additionally, chrome has been "sandboxing" since verion 10, meaning you're FAR less likely to end up with malware on your machine if you use chrome.

Maybe i'll give Chrome a try then.  You're right about 3.6 Firefox.  I think specificly I had 3.6.9 or something like that.  Updating to version 5 also made me lose my proper google toolbar for searching.  There's the generic search bar for google but it doesn't autofill like it did on older versions.  I'd assume Chrome has that feature and is also why google hasn't updated their add on for Firefox.

Do you think you will consider changing the "Default" theme?  I understand that we have the option to choose other themes, but they are dependent on a cache, which I have automatically deleted every time I close the browser.

Just my opinion, but this theme has a decidedly "Halloweenesque" nature to it.  Something blue and white perhaps???  I know I am being a pest, and perhaps have nothing better to do at the moment...
