Not too many NYers are Truthers.
That's what I was thinking, but what do I know?
Never even been there.
I assume that it's about the same percentage as the rest of the country.

Just for reference, %12 of people still think Elvis is alive.

I know, right?
Keep in mind, though, that it's a worldwide survey, not just the US.  Which is why Israel shows up.  And 25% of people don't know because 25% of people couldn't find their ass with a tennis racquet.

Interesting that they went after Quadaffi a day or so before the scheduled OBL raid- I've read that the latter was postponed for 24 hrs due to weather.

That caught my eye too.  My only regret is that bin Laden wasn't buried next to Moammar.  I know/knew people he's killed or maimed across the world spanning four decades.  It's hard to name a thrill kill cult he hasn't helped finance dating back to Baader-Meinhof, The Red Japanese Army and continuing through The Shining Path, etc.  Along the way he sponsored terrorist bombings at two airports in Italy, another at the LaBelle Disco in Berlin, and of course Pan Am 747 over Lockerbie.  That's a short list.   At least bin Laden issued a declaration of war and the reasons for it. Moammar kills for kicks.

I mention this because a lot of people in the U.S. were condemning the bombing of Moammar's home.  Apparently they are too young to remember his crimes against humanity.  Even Beyonce Knowles and other prominent, young entertainers gave personal performances for Moammar and his family.  They apparently gave back the money after they discovered he has a history giving out poisoned candy to guests.

Yeah, not to mention all other records. Would be interesting to see what outside support there may have been. I have never thought He was a mastermind, able to manage all logistics without some assistance from some fairly powerful people.

We already are telling Pakistan to F off. Depending on what those records say we may be calling out a lot of other groups for helping OBL.

I having a feeling the Alex Jones crowd will be having a heyday with conjecture. We all knew nuts would say OBL is still alive, but that will fade. Those electronic records will be the true conspiracy motherload.

Not too many NYers are Truthers.

Mmmm, Truthers. If you are saying that not too many NYers are demanding the truth about what really happened then I agree. Not too many people are demanding the truth about the JFK assassination, but a large majority believe other than reported. But I doubt that was your point, NYers not pursuing the truth vigorously.

According to my info, what I had heard previously, and it is my understanding now that the majority of NYers think it was an inside job in someway. And, they are pissed. They live there. A family member of theirs has died, they know someone who has died, they know someone who was there and say this isn't true or that isn't true... they talk "amongst themselves". Word gets around, neighbors, family, friends, they are all connected. What they know isn't what the rest of us are told.

There have been many polls done on 911 and what people think about it. A 2004 Zogby poll of NYers showed just over half believe there is a coverup.

Nationwide polls have shown 85% do not believe the official story regarding 911.

A net search yields links to many polls done, "911 inside job poll" or similar search terms.

I have to stand by my understanding of things until shown otherwise. That the percentage of NYers who said they are angry at OBL's death is born from the percentage of who believes what they believe in NY.

Yeah, about the OBL code name "Geronimo"-  Sorry people, not trying to be perturbing to anyone's sensibilities but...

   <begin perfunctory self-righteous rant>
I mean, I exactly live in the land of Geronimo, and in fact, associate and carouse with his tribal descendants on a daily basis.  But this thin-skinned crap about using my man Geronimo's name being disrespectful is a buncha crap fellas, so chill out ese'.  To anyone who knows the local history, it might even appear to be exceedingly appropriate, possibly honorable.  Homeboys don't care about this shit Holmes.  Where the fuck are you from again?  It's the race warriors who are always ready to yelp that they've been wounded in their racial pride somehow, that I enjoy practicing non-cooperation with.  Toughen up boys, the land of Geronimo is fucking hot.  You can't let every misappropriated or insensitive word or terminology get you all worked up and sweaty with yer loincloths all wadded up uncomfortable like.  Geronimo is just his Mexican slang name anyway so shut the fuck up.  I have one of the original photos that he used to let people take of him for a dime.  You think he's going to feel bad for being an international fatwah martyr icon?  Here's a hanky, go ahead cry.  What the hell are you thinking, that you're sensitive, tough, or stupid- which one?  You bring more disrespect to his name by being whiny pansies.

Ok, done.  At least I was not addressing anyone on this board.  Thanks for reading my venting.  At ease.

Thanks for that; I heard that news item in the car just as I was parking today.  I got out of the car saying, a bit too loudly, "Oh PUH-leeze, aren't we precious! (insert sound of car door slam)"  got a couple of funny looks (can't blame 'em) and went about my business.

As I've said before, I'm a WASP - and to be perfectly honest don't know a whole lot about modern Native American politics, so maybe there is something here i don't understand - but this just struck me as petty.

oh well - least I wasn't the first one to say it here.  ::)

====

A quick PS:  Okay, after reading the article I see that "Geronimo" was  the code name for bin Laden himself, not the operation (as I had thought)  - so I can see being a bit miffed - but geeze - still . . .

His relations are gonna get us all back by taking our money in their fancy casinos anyway.

oooooooooooo did I just say that?

Yeah, no picture is no good. For all I care the gov can set up a dedicated website just for it. Look at your own risk. But show the picture for closure. As for offending Muslims, I think any offense would have occurred when OBL was shot in the head.

What am I missing?  I heard that

  • there are photos
  • they will not be released to try an avoid getting all kinds of people all crazy-like.
I'm not arguing the rightness or wrongness of this choice, I'm just confused about what changed.

Picture aside, the details of the raid keep changing.  First they said he was armed, then changed that to say he was not.  They said he used a woman as a human shield, then changed that too.  They said there was video of the entire thing, and now they say there is no video.  Yesterday Sen Scott Brown said "I saw the picture, he is dead."  Today Sen Brown says, "the picture I saw was fake."  I'm not doubting what happened here, but the details are getting really muddied.

Don't believe anything that came out in the first eight hours of the story unless it's still being reported now. It's a pretty safe bet that was rumor, speculation and scuttlebutt that media types toss out there to fill time while the real info is dribbling out.

Mediocrity in the media, especially the "we were first"foolishness has lead to a ton of misreporting. The government only knows how to lie, so their stories are all over the place, telling people what they want to hear, trying to please everyone.

The mood has changed in 70 hours. That intitial euphoria is waning because of these conflicted tales. That absolutely inept Jay Carney represents all that is wrong, he looks befuddled and truly beyond his depth. They're FUCKING UP A SUCCESS!  :-[

I dunno, I am not fixating on the issue. Heck we are still fuckin up the story on soooo many issues. There isn't a straight answer anywhere to be found. I think it is just pissin on this particular admin for what ever the reason.

Think about it. When Bush's admin fucked up and let BL get away the story just faded away. When there was evidence upon evidence of torture in Abu Ghraib hell the story still isn't told.

It isn't just this admin that screws the pooch. I doubt greatly that the story is bogus. Seeing how bureaucracies work I am amazed we have any info at all.

I am just sayin.

It defies explanation on how Obama can bring confusion, and thereby suck enjoyment out of such a good thing. Panetta says they will release the pictures, then they say no, OBL had a gun, then he didn't, he used his wife for a shield, or maybe he didn't, he ran, no he fought. Come on! It was a 40 minute exercise that was F'ing video taped. Obama's the president. Get the facts in order, then do one press conference. You're the president for pity sake.

You summed it up perfectly.  Osama's dead, and I don't doubt that, but this bumbling behaviour sucks.  My theory is this: children.  There were children at the compound, some maybe died or were wounded, at the very least they were screaming their little brown heads off, or were scared shitless and stood cowering in the corners.  This is my theory on the reason that we won't see video or photos.  Dead, screaming, crying children.  If that's the case, they should just tell us that.  Just tell us the whole story and while you're at it, stick to that story.

I bet your point about children does play into this.  I thought it was strange that a helicopter crashed yet no one was hurt.  When I first heard that I said 'LIARS!'.  I guess it could happen though.

I agree, stick to a story. Hell, if they do need to cover something up, such as terrified children, at least let the CIA cook up a cover story and stick to it. Not that I want a fake story, but at least we would not look incompetent and inconsistent to our enemies.
