I feel like the cool kid came to sit at our lunch table, we all acted really awkward, and now its the next day and we're left alone playing Magic cards at the dork table wondering if we imagined it all. ;p

I think I may know what happened... he actually *read* the thread...

No, we ARE the cool kids.

The man stopped by and said hi, but he didn't sign a contract for public appearances.
If we want Art to perform for us, we need to ask him an interesting, relevant question. I can't think of any right now.

Well, apart from 'sweet jesus, how could you sell us out to that fuckface noory?' which is more of a lament than a question really.

Oh, don't get the impression that I'm in some sort of bratty "where did he go, I expect, nay, demand more" camp.  I was and still am in the "I can't believe my eyes" camp. Maybe it was the effect he had on my delicate little formative years late at night that causes him to loom inordinately large in my consciousness.  In any case, I personally find it difficult to have a casual "Oh, it was just Art stopping by, you know, whatever, totally normal" mentality, even if that's the case.  I am definitely not cool enough for that.

When Mr. Art Bell quit broadcasting he, too, “divorced” his previous wives, kids and his LOYAL AUDIENCE.

what in the hell is a "loyal" audience, anyway?  does that mean you went out to art's home in pahrump and swept the sand off of his back porch?  did you gas his car?  your use of that term suggests art owes this "loyal" audience something.  horse shit, i say.  he delivered a quality show at no cost to you, and that's it.  nothing more, nothing less.  if you expect something more from him, you're a jizm satchel of the highest order and should be psychologically evaluated.

Didn't mean to sound harsh. I'm just slightly horrified by the idea that, after a year of worming my way into Coastgab, I discover it's 'the nerd's table'.  :o

If any of you are Hams please feel free to join us on Echolink at W6OBB-L

I would be happy to try and answer any reasonable questions any of you may have.

                                                                                       Art
I don't understand where the disappointment comes into play.  He stopped by after realizing that his fans have devoted 125 pages to speculation to his future plans.  He finally gave us a completely straight answer as to what he is planning (something he didn't "owe" us) and even gave the reasons for his decision.  After that, Art has invited people to join him on his channel and he will try to answer reasonable questions we might have.

Nowhere in that did I read that he has any plans of haunting this place on a regular basis.  Quite the opposite; with a young family and enjoying retirement while keeping active with his hobby I can't imagine him sitting down and typing out long responses.  I suppose when the thread reaches page 250 he will stop back in and remind us that he is a little busy to be active on a forum and invite us again to join him on his channel.

Don't get me wrong- I would love to have him an active part of what I see as an excellent forum with intelligent and witty posters.  The fact that he chose this as a place to end speculation of his plans speaks volumes for our regular posters.  He has given people the O.K to join him in conversation.  If it is that important to any one of us to talk with him all we need to do is put a little effort into it.  It is almost unfair to expect him to give up the hours it takes to communicate with us on our medium (a forum) when we won't put the same effort into talking with him.

Having said that, I realize that my dream of page 150 for this topic is very much alive... Now that speculation of his returning to radio has been settled, all I need is for everybody to continue speculating whether or not Art will continue posting here.  ;D

Well, as MV said, he is "lurking" from time to time ---Feb 16 at 11:11 pm
as was documented on his profile:
so...maybe he just needs to be encouraged or welcomed to post every time or any time... that he has time, that is...

Yes, it was February 16, 2012 at 11:11:16 PM, there are no coincidences, as George would proclaim, after he sang us some Frank Sinatra.

Art is "Somewhere in Time" and he is happy to be there.

Let’s play hardball!

How many divorces has Mr. Art Bell had?

Three?

Wrong!

When he divorced his previous wives he “divorced” his kids too.  He has no known relationship with his kids from prior (emphasis) marriages.

So let’s go with EIGHT divorces counting previous wives and kids.  Pick your own number because I’m not going to look it up.

Eight it IS.

Wrong again!

When Mr. Art Bell quit broadcasting he, too, “divorced” his previous wives, kids and his LOYAL AUDIENCE.

So, I suggest Mr. Bell divorced 50,000,008 people.  I’ll be generous and declare Bell had fifty-million listeners.

Eight of the 50,000,008 have moved on to a new life.

50,000,000 are waiting… and waiting… and waiting… for him to return.

Why?

We, aka “us”, for some reason cannot move on to a new life and are waiting for a guy 10 years out-of-the-loop to return to the airways and continue as he has in the past.

Have you ever listened to “Art Bell:  Somewhere In Time”?  Of course you and I have.  Except all of the predictions made decades ago were WRONG.

And to add insult to injury Mr. Bell gave us Noory as a replacement.

So WE have all been "divorced", too and Art Bell gave us Noory for alimony.

Bell has a history of bad decisions.  Name one good one.

Ok so the latest decision is he returned to Pahrump.  Yay.  But he returned with a very young wife who might wake-up and decide she misses Manila more than she like Pahrump and the cycle continues AGAIN.  Except she will own one-half everything.  Read: $$.

Art is leading his 50,000,000 loyal and fawning fans along again (AGAIN).  He has done this many times before.

Don't forget that Bell is the one that sold Coast To Coast and put his loyal fans on indefinite hold.

Hold your breath because we (all 50,000,000 of us) all just know that Bell will be on the air again soon!

I suggest that Mr. AB will return to the airways when he delivers Art Bell's Pizza Punch a product he hyped, promoted, took paid orders for and failed to deliver.

Playing hardball is his game.

Let's play the countdown game. I'll start with 3. Someone else posts two and so on until we get to zero. When we get to zero, this asshole gets banned.

I leave the forum for two months to deal with family and personal issues...and see what happens?

*grumble grumble grumble*

Ah well. Wikipedia entry updated. Glad to have finally have a statement from Art, however oblique. Whatever "stay tuned" may have been meant to convey, it doesn't matter...he hath spoken. I remain in the "never say never" camp in terms of hope that someday he will, indeed, pick up the mic again, but until that day, if (when) it comes, I'm content. It's been a hell of a ride.

Think we can get 100+ pages out of my (correct) speculation that JC and UFO Phile are the same person?

I hope you're doing okay, morphia.  You've been in my thoughts.

UFO Phil has been replaced by Noory singing Elvis, so next I suggest we speculate whether Snoory and Dr. Joe Schneller (?) in the Carnivora infomercial are one in the same.  They both say the word "powerful" in the same very, very odd way.

Thanks, Bones. I'm hanging in there. It's been rough, especially since three days after Christmas, but I'm just keepin' on...figuring out my new normal.

I happened to hear the Noory Singathon--it was in the same episode with UFO Phil. I happen to love that song. I just don't understand how even Noory can delude himself into thinking he can sing well. It was *awful*.

Aw thanks for the werm welcome back guys. I feel appreciated. Now that we have it from the horse's mouth, and my life is going off in different directions, I don't know how often I'll be around, but I won't be an absolute stranger. :) Anyone who'd like to stay in more regular touch with me can find me on Facebook, pm me for the link.

One thing did occur to me about what Art said, and no one else seems to have remarked upon this...notice that Art says he's had offers to do a show on competing networks, but he doesn't wish to destroy what's left of what he built...implying that in his mind, he has the POWER to destroy it, simply by doing a competing show. :)

That, to me, speaks volumes about both the man's confidence in himself...AND what he thinks of the current state of Coast. And it makes me smile.

I'd suggest a "Host's Thread" or maybe "celeb thread" where those with public reputations to maintain could post (under their own names) without getting bogged down in the wider Hate-fest that Coastgab does so well.

I'd like to see Ian and Knapp check in occasionally too. Hell, even Noory - if he's suicidal enough to try it.

That's a great idea, Bob--"The Hosts Post" thread.  So long as it doesn't sit empty, making us look like, well, the nerdy kids at the lunch table waiting for the cool kids to post, lol.   :)

How about a separate Art Bell Q&A thread, only for specific questions for Art (not commentary) and for his responses?
This thread is too long and varied to find just the Q&A...
