your dream presidential candidate for 2012
« on: September 30, 2010, 12:06:32 AM »
Like him or not, Obama has been more about 'politics as usual' than 'hope and change.'
I'm predicting a one-term Obama presidency.  Who would you like to see follow him?

Me?
I'm thinking, "OK, we've had our first black president.  Now how about our first woman president?"
And I nominate....

Judge Judy.

I don't even know her politics, nor do I care.
She says what she thinks, she's tough, straightforward, has a clear sense of right and wrong, and she doesn't take any horse-shit.
And THAT sounds really refreshing in a president.  Plus, she has more experience than our current commander in chief.

I'd vote for him too.  Trouble is, he says he will not split the Republican Party by running a 3rd party ticket, and it's highly unlikely the Rep's will take him on as their candidate.

But the thread is on DREAM candidates - isn't it?

Actually, as pissed off as a lot of people seem to be, and with the rise of the Tea Party, the possibility of him winning Rebublican nomination is not so laughable.

Ok, so I was only half joking about my Judge Judy suggestion.

My real dream candidate would be Michael Savage.
I would also vote for Ron Paul even though he seems insane on camera.
His book was brilliant. Except for the stuff about gold.

Oh god no not Michael Savage. I used to listen to him all the time but his frequent sick days and the fact that he never shut the fuck up about his stupid dog turned me off of his show. I can kind of imagine him giving press conferences on the current status of the texture and scent of Teddy's stool. Yeesh.

Definitely thumbs up to Ron Paul though, I'd vote for him if he were on the ticket.

i'm a conservative (mostly), and my disgust for sean hannity began when i witnessed his dismissive attitude toward dr. paul in the 2008 campaign in favor of more mainstream, hack, power-broker candidates like giuliani and romney.  hannity treated him like a space alien, despite the fact paul was the ONLY candidate who understood, respected, and adhered to the constitution.  hannity spends a lot of his time on his tv and radio shows talking about the need for our politicians to respect and acknowledge the constitution, and here's dr. paul, a perfect example of what hannity claims to want in a politician, and hannity shits on him.  i have had nothing but contempt for hannity since.

oh, and one more thing, in the post-debate polls on fox news channel, ron paul CONSISTENTLY won over the other republican contenders.  when hannity would have to read off the winner of the viewer poll each time, i could tell it just absolutely made him ill.  hannity is everything that's wrong with the republican party right now, in my not so humble opinion.

as a "journalist", shouldn't hannity be less joined at the hip with the republicans?  the way Fox News is so obviously an extension of the republican party is just disgusting

You know what?  I actually disagree with much of what Ron Paul says.  So, why would I vote for him?  Because he seems to me to be a man who means what he says and says what he means. More - he refers back to the constitution.  It would just be SO FRESHING - and even healing for your country - to have a leader who isn't going out of their way to pussy-foot and obscure. Maybe we could regain some sanity - instead of having political debates that sound like they were staged for the Jerry Springer Show.

i'm not sure hannity has ever positioned himself as a journalist.  he's a commentator, and i think people generally know what they're getting with him.

problem is, what people are getting with hannity is a "down the line," hackneyed version of what a conservative is supposed to be.  there is no evolution of ideas in him.  there are no original thoughts or ideas.  there is a poorly concealed lack of analytical prowess in hannity, unlike limbaugh, the man to whom hannity probably sees himself as heir apparent.  why ANYBODY would listen to hannity on the radio when they could listen to the brilliant originality of rush is absolutely beyond me.

fox news has been dead to me since the 2008 election.  i'm also tired of them constantly trying to scare unsophisticated midwestern women over the latest thing that's going to kill their kid.  don't get me wrong, CNN and MSNBC both TOTALLY suck balls for an almost unlimited number of reasons, but i just can't ride the fox news bandwagon anymore.

Rush Limbaugh's Letter to President Obama

Rush is a jerk.  his remarks about Obama not having a father are cheap.  his job is dependent up stirring up shit.  which is easily done.  if he wanted me to listen to his arguments, he should restrain his urge to take cheap shots.  most of his remarks are completely inaccurate.  Obama has taken questions from anyone who raised a hand at Town Hall style events.  the last administration vetted all of the attendees to make sure they weren't going to hit Sonny with a real question.  when someone did put the screws to Dubbya, they were escorted out or forcibly removed.

i think Rush is confusing Obama with his predecessor

b_dubb, to think the vetting of audience questions was limited to the bush administration is naive.  there is just too much at stake politically for a presidential staff to allow that... in ANY administration.  unless i have proof that questions aren't being vetted, i'd have to assume they are.  it's nothing new, and i don't necessarily blame obama if his administration does so.  it's SOP, and no political adviser or chief of staff worth his salt would allow things to be done any other way.  i agree, it does suck to think audience questions are ever vetted, but i think you are making a losing argument to suggest the obama administration is somehow above doing so.  hell, even debates (which aren't controlled by either candidacy) have vetted audience members.  how is anyone to believe an administration, with direct control over a town hall meeting, would refuse to do so?

they aren't.  go back and watch some.  people grilled him in a way that no US President has ever been.  i'm thinking of a town hall event in Indiana where people really put it to him.

I'm very politically conservative.  I loved Rush's show in the 90's.  Nobody could touch his show for brilliant political insight and humor.  Post 9-11 he lost his edge.  His show now is a SHELL of what it formerly was.  Nor is he funny anymore.  I also can't forgive his defense of Bush and the Republicans as they screwed us six ways to Sunday.  Bush was not a conservative.  He was a fiscal and social liberal.  Not much different than Obama.

Hannity, Rush, & Beck can't hold a candle to Savage.  For me.

Oh come now,  how do you know a president has never been grilled like Obama has been?

give me an example. it's rare that  regular citizen even gets a chance to shake hands with the President but when has a President opened himself up to public scrutiny like that.

haha, for 8 years, i cringed as the man spoke.  it was like watching someone attempt to cross a tightrope on a unicycle.  his administration had perhaps the most inept communications arm of any administration, and true conservatives have a lot to be angry about when remembering these years.  it was tough.

I've never heard any of the speeches from when Shrub was the Yellow Rose of Texas (Governor) but my son did, in a communications class. Despite the fact that my son is in no way a Bush fan, he insists that his speaking style at the time was lucid, and effective.

perhaps as he ascended to the heightened prominence of national politics, the pressure he lived with on a daily basis increased proportionally.  i think that sort of a life change could cause any man to lose his eloquence.  i mean, hell, the guy started his presidency with the perception among 50% of the country that he was not legitimate.  that ALONE is enough to really fuck someone up.  add to this everything that happened in the following months... holy shit.  what horrid times in which to be president.  there were rumors throughout his presidency that he was hopped up on psychotropic meds.  i don't know if that was true, but if it were, it wouldn't be hard to believe.  i was depressed just WATCHING what was happening in our government and around the world during the bush years.
