For me the reason why the show has become cardbaord is # 1. The Host    # 2. The Guests    # 3. The lack of Imagination into the show... ie, area 51 caller, sounds of hell, Oscar, and so forth.

The thing is, you cant bring back artbell to create  the same atmosphere like it was 10-15 years ago, thats like trying to relive your childhood again, doesnt work like that.

also i think the nature of paranormal has changed.  if you were to trot out von danicken, i think most people would laugh and change the channel because that BS just doesn't fly anymore. 

a quick paranormal score card:
  1) bigfoot - no really good evidence has been accumulated.  there are indications that some of the best evidence was the product of hoaxing
  2) ufo's/aliens - people are more receptive to the possibility.  still some division over whether we've been visited
  3) ghosts - people either believe or they don't.  agnostic/aetheist/believer. 
  4) psychic - still a mixed bag.  similar divisions as ghost
  5)  others - this is where shit starts getting really ridiculous.  fairies?  leprechauns?  give me a fucking break and put down the mushrooms

MV's recording of Art Bell on ham radio said it all.  Corp's commercial interests took over after Art's departure.  Noory is perfect executive Play-Doh.  "Gold covered crisis garden seeds anyone?"  The show is nothing but an empty husk, with an occasional interesting guest who does nothing but accentuate GN's incompetence without even knowing it.  Ian and Knapp are the mortar for whatever supportive bricks remain.
