Bad Advertising - Are you ready to cringe?

I don't know what Godaddy is going for in their advertising, but it's really odd.  For those who might not know, Godaddy is a site where you register domain names (anything.com).  Their advertising typically features scantily clad women, and a visit to their site has founder Bob Parsons set up as some sort of an amalgamation of Larry Flynt and Hugh Heffner.  Really strange stuff.

I just saw the following Super Bowl commercial on the Godaddy site.  It was douche chill inducing, to say the least.  First of all, the premise is just entirely deliberate, dull-edged, and ham handed.  It goes on and on with the joke, failing to observe any sense of comedic timing.  Adding insult to insult are Danica Patrick's reaction shots, all of which are mind numbingly embarrassing.

Godaddy needs to understand that the era of "tease TV" is over.  It's 2010.  For no charge, I can turn on my computer and see HD videos of 3rd-world prostitutes passing bowel movements into the mouths of their colleagues.  Danica Patrick getting a massage from some broad next to the pool is hardly what I call interesting.  Sorry, I know... I'm ruined.

Anyway, this is just an awful, awful commercial:

I agree it's not the best ad ever.  But it didn't strike me as bad as all that.  It's a parody that missed the mark - but then maybe that was supposed to be part of the joke?

i have good experience with GoDaddy's services but frankly can't stand their advertising.  i thought i was watching a Benny Hill Show.  but then i realized it was a GoDaddy commercial.

i'm only half kidding

i'm the same way.  i buy all my domains through them.  in the rare cases i've had to call them, i've spoken to an american within just seconds after calling.  great service.  i just wish they'd change their advertising to appeal more to thinking beings.  i am embarrassed for them every time i see their ads.

i think the problem is that if you sold GoDaddy based on what they actually do ... it would be snoresville.  there's nothing sexy about dns, linux servers, ssl certificates, etc.  if they didn't do these ridiculous commericals with the hot chicks no one would have any idea who they are or what they do

But why does everything need to be sexy? I think they would sell their product well on it's own merits since the price is supposed to be reasonable for what it is.

Their commercials are so corny and so not sexy, without a hint if irony about it. It's just T & A for the sake of T & A... and not only 13 year old horndogs want their product, i.e. Axe body spray.
