Art announced it on his facebook page. (Yes, it IS really his facebook page...just don't even go there, it's been verified.)

http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001143852663

Scroll down to July 20 at 5:17am. A few posts above that he posted a picture of his daughter in front of their house.

Art's back in the USA. Don't doubt it. It has happened.

And there was much rejoicing.

I can't imagine Art would leave the Philippines only because condo association #124 would not allow him to put up a ham antenna.  He could always just buy a home and throw up his antenna somewhere nearby.  It may be a last straw situation.  He has had it.  He struggled for months with the equipment in Manila, which forced him to use Premiere screeners (and dumbed down the show).  Then after plenty of $$ spent, he still couldn't make it dependable due to ? , weather,  humidity, who knows?  So he decides instead he'll just enjoy his radio hobby with the ham.

To have that go south for him is just too much.  You can't take that much radio out of Art and still have a live, kicking man.  Art has always been one to leap when he's had enough.

The other aspect is climate change.  Remember Art wrote the Super Storm book and he's living right on the edge of the Ring of Fire....in the path of typhoons...all ready for 2012?   It's one thing to look at Ramona and say, "Baby, lets ride it out..." and quite another to look into the eyes of a five year old and wonder if she'll survive.

Nevada is much safer than the Philippines.  PLUS, Art has to be appreciating the fact that he's a legend here and he's just another rich American there.  Which might feel pretty good at this point.

I'm just glad his eye is once again on the velvet Nevada night.

All our spirits would be raised if we found out that Art was returning to the airwaves live.  One dreary night, as we once again seek out intellectual insult by tuning in to George Noory, we all might unexpectedly hear that gravelly voice of the desert night once again ask "Wanna take a ride?".

Just out of curiosity, what does everyone here think about the situation between Art and his sons Vincent and Art Jr.?  I know this might get me b&, but still.

It's perfectly obvious that Art has a history of putting family last.  There is always hope that an asshole can wake up to what's important in life and make changes.  I'm a perfect example of that.

I am hoping that Art's love of Asia has awakened in him a desire to try to repair his relationships with his other children.  They might not accept it, but it's never too late to try.  Families are not disposable, children do not come on a perforated roll with one being thrown away while you get another one.

That being said, I admire Art as a consummate radio host.  I wish him happiness in his personal life and the opportunity to ease the regrets all of us parents have.

I have to plead ignorance to what Art's relationship with his older children is.  Aren't there 3 of them, and can someone report here their current status in Art's life?  Are there granchildren, maybe even great-grandchildren by now?

Art's personal life has no bearing on his ability to entertain, nor has he lied to the public in any substantial way, so far as I know.  Still it's interesting to speculate since we never hear anything on the subject.

Please do tell if you have information.  Anybody?

This, I guess....

http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com/news-and-opinion/lost_in_space-38428459.html

Interesting article, Nefarious, all 4 pages of it. Only slightly dated -- being written, I believe, in 2007.

I followed it up by reading quite a bit of Art's Wikipedia page, a saga to rival "War and Peace" in length if not in substance. According to Wiki, Art has had 5 wives and 5 children.  I dunno about all that, especially since 2 of his sons are listed as also being named Arthur.  But then, who knows?

Onan, for whom I have great respect, has stated here on Coastgab that he believes Art to be more pragmatic than impulsive, so maybe Art was just being practical when he decided to start from scratch again and again and again and ...  ???

When it comes to retirements, he is the Brett Favre/Michael Jordan of radio.

Art never mentioned all of his many children when he was on the air.  Wikipedia lists his five wives and apparently five children.   When I first started listening to Art he was married to his beloved Ramona.  They had no children, but I bet she was the love of his life.  There is no way that the current Airyn could come close to Ramona in his affection.  Art did mention a son, Art IV, that he had with his wife (apparently the only Caucasian) just prior to Ramona.  Poor Art IV has had a very, very, unfortunate life.  Art mentioned that his son was raped by a school teacher when he was about 16 or 17.  This son later suffered from mental illness and was institutionalized for at least a while.  I once saw on the internet that the boy's mother (Art's ex-wife) was given power of attorney over him.  Evidently, Art IV, who now must be close to 30, is not competent to handle his own affairs.
Art never mentioned his first two wives and the children he had with them.  Evidently, when they were very small, Art just up and left and never supported them.  I think he mentions his latest daughter Asia (with wife Airyn) so much because he wants to make up for the total neglect of at least two of his children.
That's fine, but he now has the means to make some amends.  Hope that he has it in his heart to make amends.  Check Wiki on Art Bell.

Art has made more friends in the last hour on Facebook than Noory has made in the last ten years on C2C. Noory knows that he is hated. I wonder how he manages to continue knowing that he is a poor substitute for a radio hall of famer.

How do we know that he hasn't? Whatever my personal feelings on it the behavior itself, it doesn't lessen my respect and appreciation for what the man has accomplished and who he is NOW. And while I personally hope he HAS reached out to his other children--at the very least offered them some kind of support if they need it--it's really none of my, or our, business, is it?

I'm retired.  Before I retired, I tried to retire.  Retirement is like sex--failed attempts don't count.  I could care less whether Art's "retired" every other day since the end of the Korean War.  What I care about is that he's there live when I turn on the radio dial.  'Cause if I hear Art's voice, I will get up and make tea.  If I hear Noory's voice, I download an audio book.

It's that simple.

It was important to his career.  I want to add the beginning of topics like Y2K and the quickening, but I don't have dates.

Until I found this board I didn't know much about Art's personal life. I have listened to him long enough to remember him mentioning his son once just prior to his two week retirement in the late 90's. Yes, he has accomplished much in his life, but there is no excuse for neglecting your children, in any way, EVER !!!
As far as his reconnecting with them in his life now, would be a good idea , even if it is only trying.
As someone else posted, it's really none of my business.

It strikes home with me because my wife has an uncle that is quite parallel to Art's, as far as his personal life goes and it's quite sad. He has children all over and most he wouldn't send 20 bucks to put a fire on one of them out if they needed it. He is married to an Asian and may be kin to Art's wife. you never know. He is quite well off and could probably could do a better job at c2cam than George. He can talk about any subject and can drone on for hours on the phone without taking a breath. He is entertaining.  Anyway, that's my opinion for what it's worth.  (cha ching....two cents) :'(

As I'm still replenishing from my misplaced enthusiasm given to "Arthur Bell III's"  fake Facebook profile a few months back, I haven't tried friending "real Art" yet...

Any updates with Art and his potential hosting schemes?

Hi guys!  Just thought that I'd stop by & say hi!  Glad I did because I got the great news about Art.  Art's history is interesting but won't dampen my appreciation for his talent.  I'm glad that he finally got the hang of parenthood, however:)

Once again thanks for keeping this great site alive & for giving me the great news.
